The Carbon 2008 Organizing Committee presents two awards as mentioned below. The award ceremony is held on July 17, 2008, in the Carbon 2008 banquet. Further details on these awards will be soon found on the Carbon 2008 website.

Japan Carbon Award for Young Researchers
Researchers under the age of 45 who submit an outstanding paper to Carbon 2008 may be considered for the Japan Carbon Award for Young Researchers. Every recipient will be financially awarded and asked to deliver a lecture as the Featured Lecture in Carbon 2008. If you wish to be considered for the award, please notify Prof. Noboru Akuzawa (noboru@tokyo-ct.ac.jp) by March 15, 2008, with your short CV after the submission of the extended abstract.

Japan Carbon Award for Eminent Contributor
This award is given to a researcher for great contributions in the field of carbon materials science and technology or service to the International Carbon Groups. The recipient will be financially awarded and asked to make a speech in Carbon 2008.

Japan Carbon Award for Students
Students who submit an excellent paper to Carbon 2008 are considered for the Japan Carbon Award for Students. Every recipient will be financially supported for the trip. If you wish to be considered for the award, please notify Prof. Noboru Akuzawa (noboru@tokyo-ct.ac.jp) by March 15, 2008, with your abstract ID after the submission of the extended abstract.

The Brian Kelly Award 2008
This annual award was established in 1996 in memory of Brian Kelly, a leading authority on graphite physics. The award is intended as a travel grant for students and early career researchers with up to ten years postdoctoral experience to attend the annual international carbon conference. Anyone living or working, at the time of that conference, in the country where the conference is held is not eligible. As a consequence, applications will not be accepted from Japan on this occasion.
The award is made upon the basis of an appraisal of THREE documents: (1) the extended abstract or paper as submitted to the C2008 conference, (2) a short CV and (3) a commentary provided normally by the candidate's supervisor or close colleague. Self-nomination is permitted. The Award Committee of the British Carbon Group will determine the successful applicant.
The closing date for applications for C2008 will be 15th April 2008.
The award is currently five hundred pounds sterling and is presented at the time of the conference. The winner must attend the conference and presents his or her paper orally or as a poster.
Applications may be transferred electronically to the Chairman of The Brian Kelly Award Committee, Prof. Malcolm Heggie, at m.i.heggie@sussex.ac.uk or, exceptionally, mailed to him at the following address:
